Chapter 10
Slide #3:
1. The types of friendships in this episode the Big Bang Theory were long term friendships.
2. Yes, sometimes I do find myself comparing my friendships and relationships even with friendships I see on TV and how we can relate or how sometimes we are different and how it is more realistic in person than what you would see on TV.
3. Yes, I feel like to a certain extend there are certain useful aspects you can take from television and apply to your own friendships. Maybe in some television shows they can show how to resolve a conflict or the plot of the episode is similar to what you are facing in real life with your friends and they can give you a way to resolve that kind of conflict.
4. I would say that what I have learned from television friendships is the comfort of long term friendships are also realistic to what I have in real life as well.
Slide #5
1. I think that Sherry Turkle proves many points in this Ted Talk. So many times me and my friends go out or we hang out and we are together physically but mentally we are so focused on other things like our phones.
2. I believe that in today's society we are so use to connecting and communicating with others through messages and text messages that we have no idea how to communicate in real life and it takes away the intimacy of conversation in relationships. We fail to realize how hard it is to connect with each other anymore.
3. Even though this Ted talk took place in 2012, I feel that this is still a relevant message today. It has actually got worse from then until now and it has continuously been a problem in my own friendships. We do not really know or learn about people anymore just like Turkle mentioned. We rarely build real personal friendships or relationships anymore.
Slide #6
1. My own experience from cross-sex friendships have always been successful friendships. Growing up I was always the tom boy of my group of friends and guys have naturally looked at me as "one of the boys" and it was easy to fall into certain friendships. I obviously grew up and started to finally grow into being more girly and our friendships have always stayed the same.
2. I think challenges that come with cross-sex friendships are maybe the feeling of insecurity that may come from one of the friends significant other. I know that many times people may not feel comfortable with their spouse or boyfriend or girlfriend having a friend of the opposite sex causing the friendships to end. I think that another challenge is being friend zoned, which is when someone else may catch feelings when the other person does not reciprocate those feelings back and it may strain the friendship.
Slide #15
1. Love is choice between two people who share intimacy and romance.
Slide #19
1. My love language was quality time. I do feel that two different people with different love languages can share a relationship because what someone else lacks their partner will be there to fill in that void for them and it may benefit both of them as a unit.
